Pop up junk mural: Wandsworth Fringe Festival

We were delighted to be part of the Wandsworth Fringe Festival this year. Our theme for the festival has been not wasting resources - a cause very close to our hearts at the Scrapstore! Around 100 adults and children from Tooting joined us on 21st May to create a fantastic pop up junk mural using materials sourced from the Scrapstore. No scissors, pens or glue allowed! The inspiration for the mural and artistic direction came from Amanda Callis of Cool It Art. Our community mural was added to by all who came, and represented agriculture, the fruit and vegetable harvest, and the family meal. It was true pop up art and all of the materials used are now back in the Scrapstore for someone elses

Roaring Raptors in Roehampton!

Work and Play had a fantastic day out at ROAM's Dino Day on 14 May - Alton went Ancient for Wandsworth Fringe, and we were there getting stuck in with our 'Dress-A-Dino' stall. Catherine and Georgia were joined during the day by a whopping three hundred children of all ages, all eager to decorate their very own triceratopses, tyrannosaurus rexes and diplodocuses with fabric, glitter and all different kinds of trimmings from the Scrapstore. We were thrilled to be asked to participate with ROAM's event, as they are a fantastic initiative for the local community, 'working towards dynamic and accessible creative and cultural programming for Roehampton'. Tiles and Teddies at Third Door

We were thrilled to visit Third Door Workhub - an exciting new concept combining a flexible daycare nursery with an onsite co-working space - to provide some of our wonderful workshops. Families joined Jayson to create Rangoli-inspired art. They had great fun and made some lovely pieces to treasure. We were very impressed with the well-dressed teddies made by small children (all under 5) at the day nursery working with Catherine. All of the materials used in our dress a teddy workshops would otherwise end up in landfill or incineration - we think that's a waste! If you would like us to run a workshop at your venue, please get in touch.
