Masks of the World

If you've visited the Scrapstore lately (and if you haven't, what are you waiting for?), you'll have seen the amazing display we currently have of masks from around the world, all made from Scrapstore materials by our talented volunteers.

This beautiful model was created by Freyja to represent the Carnival of Venice, a tradition dating back to the thirteenth century and still celebrated today. Her dress is made from a variety of fabric including velvet and silk, all available here to our members.

Freyja also made some simple but stunning masks from a basic design - if you're not sure whether you can manage it yourself, don't worry! We have worksheets showing you how!

Volunteer Carol has also been very busy making masks from cultures around the world, including Africa and Asia. She explained how she was inspired to make a Japanese themed mask and headdress by seeing Katsuhika Hokusai's block print 'The Great Wave'.
