Stories from the Scrapstore

Christmas Crafts with Childminders

At the end of November, we were delighted to pop along to the Early Years Centre at Siward Road and get crafty with lots of childminders with their tots. We made loads of sparkly festive projects....Dangling CD snowflakes, pom-pom trees, frosty snowmen and beautiful baubles. All of the materials used were saved from landfill or incineration and all of the creative ideas came from our wonderful volunteers Jane and Berit who ran the event. We entertained little ones from 6 months to 3 years old and everyone was super-enthusiastic to get involved including the grown-ups! Many gorgeous crafty items were proudly taken away for mummy, daddy, grandma and aunties and uncles. We're looking forward t

Teamworking Conveyor

We're so proud of our latest Jayson Singh masterpiece outside the Scrapstore! In the autumn, Jayson completed his hard work to make another mural as a landmark so we can be seen from the Smallwood Road side of Hazelhurst Estate. His new piece is called 'Teamworking Conveyor' and reflects the spirit of the Scrapstore volunteers and local residents: working together to keep our lovely little charity going like cogs in a machine. Jayson has continued the colour theme through from his mural on the other side of the walkway and his 'Lilies Speak Volumes' community murals on the pillars underneath Hayesend House Tower which include contributions from over 100 different local residents and Scraps

Shouting out about Scrappy!

We've been out and about a lot at the end of November. Firstly at the Putney Society's Arts event on 28th November to show off our lovely upcycled stuff alongside talking about our charity's work and then at the Camberwell Christmas Arts Market on 30th, selling upcycled handmade crafts. We love getting out and about and shouting out about what we do! This is what our Trustee Deborah had to say about the Putney Society's event: "It was a great privilege to be invited by the Putney Society to join the “Arts in Putney” evening on 28th November. This event was a showcase for the exciting arts scene in Putney and included performances by Putney Verse, Japonica Singers and Putney Arts Theatre.
