What you'd do

Three ways to help on an open day

Sorting

Sort and fill the shelves

Every crate that arrives is opened, checked and organised by hand, so members can find what they need. It's practical, sociable work with a visible result, and you learn the stock faster than you'd think.

Welcoming

Welcome people

Sit on reception, greet members by name, show first-time visitors around and help people find the unexpected. If you like people more than boxes, this is the job for you.

Behind the scenes

Keep things running

The small tasks that make an open day smooth, from tidying displays to helping load a big donation. Whole days, at your own pace, in good company.

Volunteer life

A sociable team with a purpose

Volunteering here is practical, sociable and visibly useful: you can see the shelves fill and the bags leave. Some of our volunteers have been with us for well over a decade. Emma, one of our volunteers, made this patchwork jacket from fabric rescued through the store.

How it works

From application to first shift

Apply online

Create a free account and complete the short application: your availability, your interests, and a little about you. It takes about five minutes, and there's no membership to buy first.

We review and get in touch

A member of the team reads every application and gets in touch, usually to invite you in for a chat and a look around the store before your first shift.

Book your first days

Once you're approved, book the days that suit you from your own calendar. Come as often or as rarely as you like, in whole days, at your own pace.
