Students' Scrappy Shopping
We were thrilled to have special visitors to the Scrapstore - on 19th October - a gang of 60 First Year BA students from UCA Farnham, School of Crafts and Design. The students visited us to get stuff for their structure, combine and bundle project and they all went away with an array of weird and wonderful materials to create with. The prize for the most unusual of materials goes to the chap who took a surf board!
In addition to shopping with us, the students spent time at Wimbledon Art Studios completing a 'stitch' workshop with Nicole Line. Before their workshop, we had the chance to talk to the students about the strengths of the Scrapstore, including diverting waste from landfill/incineration, our work in the local community and our wonderful volunteers. After a busy day, in Tooting the students were then lucky enough to visit Contemporary Applied Arts in London.
Thanks so much to Nicole, Sharon Ting (course leader) and Louise Anderson (weave tutor) from BA Textiles for arranging the day and facilitating the students' visit to us. Hope to see all of you again soon and really looking forward to seeing some of the project outcomes with our Scrapstore materials!
