Hazelfest The Third!

What a wonderful day we had on 19th May running our green festival - Hazelfest - as part of Wandsworth Arts Fringe. This was the third, and we think the best, Hazelfest so far! The weather was good, the vibe was chilled and lots of local groups, artists and performers supported us to make the event very special.

Around 350 of our estate and surrounding community joined us to celebrate being together, to make, perform, listen and relax. Highlights included:

• Street dance from Smallwood Primary School

• James, The Castaway and the magnificent duo from the Sound Lounge

• Face painting from Heart In Art UK

• Motown dancing from the Gemini Dancers of Earlsfield

• Jayson Singh with his aspiration catcher

• Drumming from Generate

• Weavie Stevie with her upcycled bricks beginning the 'two towers of Summerstown' project

• Blue Plaque display, giant daffodils and daffodil making from Summerstown 182 in celebration of Peter Barr, the Daffodil King

• Singing from the Hestia older people's choir

• Age awareness quiz and collage from Hestia

• Music workshops from World Heart Beat Academy

• Happy thoughts bunting, wishing trees, dressing teddies, magic butterflies, french knitting, milk bottle puppets, and a lucky dip from the Scrapstore

• Coffin decorating (yes really!) from Poppy's Funerals as part of Dying Matters week

• Giant bubbles from Blake

• Food from Yummy and Beyond

• Delicious home-made cakes and messy craft from St Mary's and the Summerstown Mission

Thanks so much to all of the Scrapstore volunteers for setting up and de-rig and marshaling on the day. We are in debt to the Sound Lounge and James in particular for generously lending us their sound equipment and helping us use it all day.
