Superstar 'Scrapsters'

We were absolutely thrilled that our artist partners Jayson Singh and Weavie Stevie were nominated for the Balham and Tooting Community Association Community Heroes Awards for their fabulous work undertaken with people living on Hazelhurst Estate to brighten up the area directly outside the Scrapstore. They received well-deserved highly commended certificates and were invited to the lovely celebration evening on 21st March.

Geoff our wonderful Trustee was also nominated for his work running Summerstown182 community group promoting local history in Summerstown/Tooting. And he won!

The Community Awards evening on 21st March was an amazing celebration of the heroes of Tooting and Balham. Samaj Hall was packed with nearly 200 hundred guests (including our very own Trustee, Catherine May, who enjoyed meeting everybody!) of all ages, faiths and backgrounds. It was an evening of warmth and cheer, with entertainment from the Great Gustos community choir and a beautifully served curry dinner from Shahi Kitchen. 12 winners were awarded for a wide range of community contributions. Councillor Piers McAusland, the Mayor of Wandsworth, and Ann Beasley, Chair of the South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust spoke. Rosena Allin-Khan, MP for Tooting, rounded off the evening with a rousing tribute to the openness and warmth of the community in Tooting.

Thanks BATCA for recognising the wonderful contribution our 'Scrapsters' make to the local community!
