WAPS learns how to Be Enriched

On Thursday 28 July we were thrilled to welcome Be Enriched, a fabulous charity who work with disadvantaged and young people in Greater London, Wales and Glasgow, and with European youth organisations, UK communities in a range of activities, projects and initiatives.

Two groups of around fifteen to twenty young people from all over Europe, including Spain, Romania and Scotland, got stuck in with a hands-on workshop run by our amazing in-house artist, Jayson Singh. He taught them to make beautiful and unique works of art using old tiles and coloured salt.

“It was an honour to share my Rangoli painting concept with the young adults from ‘BeEnriched’. Everyone’s unique take on colour interactions were beautifully reflected in each of their original paintings. For me as an artist, I’ve definitely picked up valuable ideas just by observing budding painters at work and how they decide to create as a team on colour strategies. I’m already looking forward to running the next workshop and I’m sure the whole experience will inspire me once again.“

The young people all had a great time, and a young visitor from Glasgow was asked how she'd enjoyed their visit.

How did you find yesterday? It was great. I love creative things. It was great to see things people can get involved in and this was proved by the amount of things we got made. I have never knitted before and it is something I have always wanted to do and i have done it here. What did you do yesterday? Went to the scrap store and learnt what they did there. its a charity and you pay a fee and take what you want. We made tiles with coloured salt.

What activity will you recommend to others? Making the salt tiles

What is the most important thing you have learnt so far? The importance of up-cycling, reusing and being creative with the products we buy because land fill is not an option anymore.

It was great to see the enthusiasm of all our visitors, and we hope we'll see them again soon!
